The highway ends after Hatteras but NC operates a free ferry that makes a 40 minute trip from Hatteras to Ocracoke Island. After exiting the ferry we rode 14 miles to the town of Ocracoke where we spent the night. Tomorrow morning we take another ferry from Ocracoke to Cedar Island. That ferry trip is over 2 hours long. The ferry terminal is only 1/4 mile from where we are staying.
