Taking a break to look at the ocean.
Today was a semi-rest day. Only rode about 29 miles. At least 15 miles was right along the ocean before the route headed inland through Holly Hill and Daytona Beach. Along the ocean route I saw lots of expensive homes and condos. When the route turned a little inland the housing stock changed dramatically - much less expensive housing.
I stopped at a Starbucks in Ormond Beach. I left my Adventure Cycling map on a table when I went to get my drink and when I returned to the table my map was gone. It turned out that a worker put it in the garbage which he had just tossed in the dumpster behind the building - I was not happy since I needed that bike map for the remainder of the trip. I was able to rescue the map from the dumpster and because the maps are plastic coated I was able to wash and dry the map without any damage to the map.
Later after a Gatorade stop at a convenience store I was about to start riding when someone walking by asked me if my front tire was supposed to be flat on the bottom - a comedian. It was my first real flat. I found a glass shard had punctured the tire. The tire still had plenty of tread but it was cracked in several places where you could see the inner Kevlar tire liner so I installed both a new tube and tire. I had a spare tire packed away at the bottom of one pannier. After installing the new tire I remembered it had a directional tread pattern. Of course, I had the tread pattern backwards so I had to remove the tire and reinstall it.
