Today was the first day of the fifth week of our trip. I think it was the easiest day of the trip to date. Although we rode 50 miles it was the first day without significant hills!!
Also, the day started with a few miles on the road and then we got onto the Rock Creek bike path. From that we connected with the Capital Crescent trail which enabled us to ride virtually all the way from Maryland to downtown DC without riding on the road. The Capital Crescent trail then connected with the Mt. Vernon trail as soon as we crossed the Potomac River from DC into Virginia. We then took the Mt. Vernon trail all the way to Mt. Vernon. That allowed us to ride about 30 miles that was mostly a bike trail.
We then rode on a few busy roads until we turned into an Army base (Fort Belvoir) and rode across the base. We then went about five miles off the route to camp at a county park. Although we arrived at 8 pm and had to setup the tents in the dark the campground appears to be very nice.
