The ferry from Ocracoke was a bargain at $3.

It was a brand new ferry which covered about 23 miles across to the mainland. We didn't start riding until we got off the ferry at about 12:30 pm. And, on the mainland we rode a long stretch across a wildlife sanctuary which looked like a marsh. Unfortunately, there was nothing to block the wind so we had a headwind for quite awhile. Later the headwind died down.

I made a navigational error so we ended up doing a little extra riding!!
